As Town Mayor it is a pleasure to introduce this website. The Memorial Hall is celebrating its centenary this year so look out for the extensive programme of celebratory events listed on this website. The Hall is one of numerous organisations, clubs and activities that welcome both locals and visitors alike which include numerous sports and not forgetting the public swimming pool.
There are also festivals and events including the unique Mackerel Fiesta, the West Wales Shire Horse Festival, a Garden and Craft weekend, and the RAY Ceredigion Children (and adults!) Play Day, as well as the hopeful return of the Tug of War across the harbour.
Similarly, there are many shops and art galleries offering local products and mementos. The town has built an enviable reputation for high standard accommodation, cosy pubs and food for all tastes ranging from traditional fish and chips and ice cream, to award winning cafes and restaurants.
The town’s heritage is captured by Cymdeithas Aberaeron Society, outlining how the town and harbour evolved alongside strong maritime and shipbuilding links. The coastal path, woodland and river walks, the guided town walk and the two play areas combine to make Aberaeron an outstanding place for all to enjoy.
An additional attraction this year will be the ability to walk along the new breakwater, which will take you out to sea to enjoy the views back towards the harbour. Indeed, the town will see a re-boot this year after eighteen months of extensive sea defence work that incorporates the remodelling of Quay Parade, the inner harbour at Pwll Cam, plus South Pier and beach which will ensure the protection of the town for the next two hundred years and beyond.
We are very proud of our vibrant town and, whilst a close-knit community, we are delighted to share it. Whether a local, first time or returning visitor we hope you enjoy what Aberaeron has to offer. Please take advantage of the free wi-fi in the town centre linked to the App giving further information on the town and events this year.
Finally, the highlight of the year will once again be the August Bank Holiday Carnival – this year’s colours are blue and pink – dress yourself, your premises and your houses and enjoy!
